Stephen McNeil’s changing fortunes

Somehow, Stephen McNeil finds himself in the most stable political situation among Atlantic premiers.

Not long ago, the Nova Scotia premier was rated the least popular among his provincial peers. At one point, he was one of only two Liberals among premiers. In October, the federal Liberals lost their majority.

Things looked grim for the Liberals and for McNeil’s chances of winning a third mandate. Speculation was rife that the premier would not even run in the next election.

But recent developments must have Nova Scotia Liberals thanking their lucky stars and Progressive Conservatives in the other Atlantic provinces fighting off panic attacks.
