Your writer described Ali France as having lost a leg "after a car accident", which is an inadequate abbreviation ("Dutton apologises for remarks on rival", April 17).

We have also been given a fuller and more informative story. A few years ago, France was seriously injured in the car park of a suburban centre in Brisbane when, in order to protect her four-year-old son, she bravely put herself in the way of car that was carelessly backing too fast out it its parking place and straight at her as she was packing groceries.

As a result, and because of the courageous way in which she has subsequently coped with her disability, she is, rightly, a local heroine. When her full story is told, the baseness of Peter Dutton's sneers becomes even more obvious. John Carmody, Roseville

I found galling Peter FitzSimons' summing up in his conclusion to the article regarding the sexual abuse of boys at Knox Grammar School ("'I would never be the same again': Former student's $1m abuse lawsuit", April 14

The settlements have little to do with goodwill and more to do with a hurried endeavour to avoid the long-running publicity court cases attract. Annette Johnson,........
