What price a pool for the people of Parramatta?

Before he stepped down from cabinet pending an investigation into his property investments, NSW Sports Minister John Sidoti was in the news for another issue in western Sydney that warrants further investigation.

The plans for the new $77 million Parramatta Pool on land that sits next to Parramatta High in the Mays Hill precinct.

There's a new $77 million plan to replace the Parramatta War Memorial Pool, demolished in 2017 to make way for the new Bankwest Stadium, which replaced the demolished Parramatta Stadium. It replaced Cumberland Oval, the original homeground for the Parramatta District Rugby League Club. The oval's grandstand was burnt to the ground in a blaze lit by Parramatta supporters the night they won their first grand final in 1981.

After more than a year of negotiations, Minister Sidoti said on September 10 the state government would contribute $38.5 million to the new pool project, which would be managed by the local council.

Parramatta Council unveiled the design for the aquatic centre, featuring a 50-metre outdoor pool and a 25-metre indoor pool (no diving facilities like the previous pool), which it intends to place in Parramatta........
