Trump assassination attempt divides a polarized America even further (opinion)
It’s a different America now.
And a different campaign for president.
A sniper opened fire on Donald Trump as the former GOP president was addressing a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday evening, wounding Trump’s ear.
A person in the crowd was killed in the hail of gunfire. Two others at the rally were seriously wounded.
The sniper was identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks.
He fired from a rooftop just 164 yards away from the stage where Trump was speaking. Crooks was killed at the scene by Secret Service agents.
It was a dark day for America. A day when a country divided against itself became even more polarized.
We hear a lot about how America has never been more divided.
It makes many of us think back to the Vietnam War era, another time of deep division in this country, particularly the incendiary year of 1968.
It was a time of great violence in the United States. It was also a presidential........
