Staten Island school shooting shows true danger of NYPD radio encryption (opinion)
There was a shooting at a high school on Staten Island on Thursday.
And but for a tip from a reader, the Advance/SILive.com might have never heard about it.
Which means that you, the public, may not have ever heard about it.
Can you imagine?
The shooting took place in a park across the street from McKee High School, St. George, with a 17-year-old wounded in the leg. At least five shots were fired during the incident.
The shooting came a day after a gun was confiscated from a student as he entered nearby Curtis High School. Police say that incident may be gang-related.
In these days when shootings at schools continue to rattle the country, and when youth violence is a major issue on Staten Island, not having access to police radio transmissions is a dangerous way for a community to live.
And you can blame Mayor Eric Adams and the NYPD for that.
Police scanner traffic has been encrypted on Staten Island and in other parts........
