NYC speed cameras not just a rip-off but could be unconstitutional too (opinion)

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – It seems like every time you drive around you find a new speed camera, slyly tucked away behind a utility pole or street sign.

The Advance/SILive.com a couple of weeks ago reported on the locations of eight new speed cameras on Staten Island.

It won’t be the last time that a story like that that gets written around here.

Speed cameras, as well the ever-lowered speed limits that have accompanied them in New York City, are an aggravation and a rip off.

The cameras slow us down unnecessarily on many roads.

They turn us into compulsive speedometer-watchers, making sure that we don’t go that magical 10 miles per hour over the speed limit and get zapped with a ticket.

Their placement doesn’t always make sense to us.

Not to mention the fact that the city turned out to have not told the truth when they initially told us years ago that speed cameras........
