When it comes to your body, it’s better to know than not to know | The Old Guy
Joan and I have been lucky enough to find many great doctors to tend to our various ailments, which only get more pronounced as we age. One of the best is our optometrist, Dr. Frank Pirozzolo, whose office is off of Hylan Boulevard.
Joan and I went for our regular check up recently and we discussed many things with the good doctor, including the interface between hearing aids and how to keep your glasses clean (a small soft cloth). I also mentioned that my allergies of late have been awful and that I attributed that to the effects of climate change.
To back up a bit, I first experienced sinusitis at the age of 17 after a family trip to Swan Lake in Sullivan county. I’ve been looking for ways to address the issue ever since. I regularly use a Neti pot and Flonase and sometimes have to resort to Mucinex for relief. Until four years ago, I was going into Queens for monthly allergy shots, but my symptoms worsened after the pandemic and the shots were no longer effective.
The good doctor informed us that some people with rheumatoid arthritis experience a condition known as CRS:
“Sinus aspergilloma and chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) are sinus conditions associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).”
