For those unacquainted with the term, “Bizarro World” was a creation of the artists and writers at DC comics. Bizarro was an imperfect duplicate of Superman, his direct opposite actually, with skin like shards of glass painted white. He deliberately does everything opposite to what Superman does, hates beauty, loves ugliness. It’s a crime on Bizarro World to make anything perfect.

An offshoot of this idea appeared in the series “Stranger Things,” when characters referred to living in “the upside down.” The current expression “six-seven” once referred to the fact that the world seemed at sixes and sevens, or out of order.

I’ve seen many examples of the Bizarro World lately. Primarily among them is a government that seems to do exactly the opposite of what it said it was going to do. It promised food prices would go down, and they went up. It promised to end two wars on day one, and instead changed the Department Of Defense into The Department Of War, hired a complete hawk to run it, and got us entangled in a conflict with Venezuela. It went on the hunt for drug smugglers, killed fishermen instead, promised to corral bad guys and instead picked up people of color in Home Depot’s parking lot and college students and nurses just minding their own business. It promised to eliminate waste and instead created more and fired essential workers. It said it would stop the flow of drugs into our country and instead pardoned a drug lord.

But, they’re not the only folks messing things up.
