China and the New Climate Leadership |
The twenty first century is witnessing both traditional and non traditional security threats. Among non traditional threats, climate related disasters are the most pressing and rapidly escalating. World leaders have shown growing concern about climate change, yet the global community remains far from achieving meaningful outcomes.
Several climate conferences have been held where political leaders and business stakeholders identified climate related challenges and proposed various solutions. However, these efforts largely remain at the level of discussion. Implementation remains weak. For example, the loss and damage fund continues to face delays, while many pledges made by developed countries have yet to materialize.
The United States administration under President Donald Trump labelled climate change as a myth. This stance reflected a broader policy shift away from climate responsibility. Such an approach demonstrated an apathetic attitude by a major power toward serious non traditional security threats that the world is currently facing.
In contrast, China is playing a significant role in the global climate mitigation process. China is actively engaging at the international level to address climate change while aligning its domestic development with climate resilient infrastructure and sustainable policies.........
