I believe Peter Murrell was very familiar with the north-east through honing his skills in various party-political roles – including wingman to Alex Salmond – before sinking to the giddy depths of infamy.
I’m not sure if he has intimate knowledge of the Aberdeen South constituency, but you’d think he might have an opinion.
About how the SNP left so much blood on the floor after its painful battering at the recent Westminster by-election.
Figures were his strong point, but not in a good way.
I suppose he has more to think about while inside, after his five-year sentence for embezzlement, rather than pondering Aberdeen South’s disaster for the SNP.
The judge said Murrell, former SNP chief executive and estranged husband of Sturgeon, would never work again.
But how about a book or Netflix six-parter?
He’ll only have two years to serve thanks to the Scottish Government’s generous early-release policy, which often treats criminals better than victims.
The main point with Aberdeen South was that it proved “local” matters, as The P&J keeps reminding us about community life – quite rightly.
Pampered out-of-touch politicians ignored local issues at their peril and the Tories profited in what became an “oil and gas” referendum.
A shaken Swinney lamented, “It was tactical”.
