The United Kingdom also announced the deployment of one Type 45 warship to the Strait of Hormuz—a development that is unlikely to change the situation much.
The Royal Navy announced over the weekend that it would finally send a warship to the Middle East to support defensive operations and protect shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. However, the best the UK had to offer was its Type 45 air defense destroyer, HMS Dragon, which was first dispatched to the Eastern Mediterranean in March.
“The pre-positioning of Dragon is part of prudent planning that will ensure the UK is ready, as part of a multinational coalition jointly led by the UK and France, to secure the strait, when conditions allow,” a UK Ministry of Defense (MoD) spokesperson told Naval News.
