On more than one occasion, President Donald Trump has suggested that NATO hasn’t been there for the United States and won’t be again in the future. Those comments have arguably become a self-fulfilling prophecy, as Trump declined to consult with the alliance before launching Operation Epic Fury against Iran—citing its unreliability—only to have its members refuse to join in.
