Protect Polio Teams |
As the resurgence in terrorist activity continues to ravage Pakistan, one particularly grim subset of this violence persists, one that long predates organised militancy itself: attacks on polio teams carrying out their duties across the country. At least two people, including a police constable, were killed when unidentified assailants targeted a polio team in KP’s Bajaur district as the nationwide campaign entered its second day. The incident once again exposes the complex and tragic nature of Pakistan’s polio crisis, one sustained by decades of unchecked propaganda spread by extremist clerics well into the 21st century.
