Hamas’s armed wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, released a video statement officially confirming the martyrdom of Abu Obeida, the much-loved, enigmatic spokesperson who had become the face of the organisation since the early 2000s. He was always seen on national television with a red-and-white keffiyeh wrapped tightly around his face. Yet, despite his features remaining hidden, his eloquence and spirit shone through. Over time, he became a source of inspiration for millions in Palestine and beyond, and a target of relentless obsession for the Zionist regime that sought his death.
