As the birthplace of the women's suffrage movement and home to trailblazers like Sonia Sotomayor, Shirley Chisholm and Eleanor Roosevel, New York has always been at the forefront of the fight for equality. This election we have an opportunity to extend this legacy of progress and inclusivity by voting YES on Prop 1, which would provide the most extensive, anti-discrimination protections in the country and ensure that the right to abortion would be permanently protected in New York.
In the two years since the overturn of Roe v. Wade, we’ve seen generations of progress threatened. Half the states in the country have abortion bans. Birth control and IVF are under attack. Many thought this nightmare scenario could never come to pass — yet we now live in a country where more than 1 in 3 women have lost the fundamental right to control their own bodies, lives and futures.
