America must speak out on Trump policies
I appreciate Jahnn Swanker-Gibson’s Dec. 11 letter, (“America is headed down a bad path,”) in which the writer professed Republican and Christian affiliations.
The letter cited various actions that the current administration is carrying out, which are cruel and troubling.
I applaud the author for speaking out and taking a stand against policies that so many in the Republican party support and defend.
Adam Serwer, a staff writer for the Atlantic, said it best. “The cruelty is the point.”
This through-line is the common thread and theme of Trump’s presidency that unites roughly one-third of Americans.
Many of his supporters cheer the cruelty, even while Trump’s policies like tariffs, expiration of health care subsidies and cuts to Medicaid and SNAP inflict pain on Trump voters disproportionately.
It is stunning that so many relationships — either through family ties or years of shared friendships — have ended because of disagreement over Trump. Arguments over a........
