Wrong to focus on immigrants for crime

In her Feb. 3 letter, (“Thankful for President Trump”), Rosemary McSweeney thanked Donald Trump for stopping “undocumented immigrants raping and murdering women and children.” Here are some facts.

I certainly do not condone violent crime, and we should strive to reduce the violent crime rate to zero. But the facts show that undocumented immigrants commit only a small fraction of violent crimes.

The Cato Institute, a highly-respected Conservative think tank, www.cato.org, says “all immigrants — legal and illegal — are less likely to be incarcerated than native-born Americans,” with undocumented immigrants having about one-half the incarceration rate of native-born citizens.
