A mother’s plea for government officials to act. A plea that came too late to save Cari Scribner’s 27-year-old son, Nick, but which might save other mothers the same anguish and other mothers’ children the same preventable fate.
Local state legislators like Assemblyman Phil Steck and Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh and Sen. Jim Tedisco heard her. And on Monday, Gov. Kathy Hochul signed into law their bill (A5852A/S8285) that will warn people about the potential dangers of the herbal product made from kratom.
The bill will strengthen protections and ensure that people using the product to treat insomnia, stress or other ailments will be aware of the potential........
