EDITORIAL: Get to the bottom of high utility bills

New Yorkers can agree on two things — it’s really cold outside, and our utility bills this winter are really high.

But beyond that, there seems to be a lot of disagreement among government officials, utilities, the unions representing power company workers, state regulatory agencies and utility customers over the exact reasons for those higher bills.

Within the last month, we’ve published conflicting guest columns over the causes for the high prices homeowners are paying.

One was from state Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara, who called on the state comptroller’s office to investigate high utility delivery charges as a significant cause of rising heating bills.
