Fortunately, many of the kimchi cabbages that my family and I grew survived. But the lower parts of a lot of other people's kimchi cabbages on the weekend farm softened and withered.

According to Korea's Rural Development Administration, this year's diseased cabbages resulted from an abnormal climate. This autumn's temperature was 3-4 degrees Celsius higher than usual, and the humidity was high due to frequent rain. So soft rot spread, which reduced the production of kimchi cabbages and raised their price.
