Africa is heading east and Korea is offering deal without conditions or hidden agenda

From a Korean point of view, there is an opportunity for a “great partnership” between Korean financial and business institutions, with their technology and money, and the fastest-growing African economies to create new opportunities and a more prosperous future.

During the past period, several consultations took place between the two parties, which ended with Korea and Africa agreeing to deepen their cooperation, move from partnership to investment, and mobilize more financing and technology in order to achieve comprehensive access to energy and make Africa the world’s food basket.

In Seoul's view, there is a critical role for Korea and Africa to play as the international community moves forward. The role was determined by the former Korean Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choo Kyung-ho who said Korea's strength is in technology and innovation, while Africa has great opportunities as the global future market and industrial base.

"Together, our two worlds can become the strongest rock of solidarity," he said at the seventh Ministerial Conference on Korea-Africa Economic Cooperation in Busan recently.

And you see Korea clearly sees opportunities in African rare minerals that are "very vital" to high-tech industries, which are the industries of the future, whether semiconductors or batteries. You also see a huge opportunity for the continent to become one of the global production chains, and huge opportunities in infrastructure projects that the younger continent needs, and for which everyone is competing.
