In celebration of World Mental Health Day

“Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” - World Health Organization.

World Mental Health Day is celebrated annually on Oct. 10 across the globe. It was first established by the World Federation for Mental Health in 1992, an international non-governmental organization that includes both mental health providers and clients. The overall goals of the celebration are to raise mental health awareness through education, reduce stigma and discrimination, advance mental health services and advocate for the rights of individuals with mental health conditions.

Over the past 30 years, this global event has become a vital platform, giving many individuals the knowledge and skills to improve their own mental health while simultaneously encouraging organizations to facilitate the advancement of mental health care with evidence-based strategies. Moreover, it has awakened the global community to recognize mental health as a universal human right and prompted them to take necessary action to build a healthier future for everyone everywhere with a shared sense of responsibility.
