Political leaders should listen to public outcries about financial struggle

The Lunar New Year holiday is over. If one were to sum up the public sentiment during the four-day holiday into a couple of words, it could be "tightening belts." Most working-class families will agree. The Bank of Korea has said the economy grew 2 percent last year, the lowest increase in a decade, and comparable to the Asian currency crisis of 1998 and the global financial turmoil in 2008.

Already, concerns are mounting over whether Korea will be able to hit the government's target growth rate of 2.4 percent for this year. For ordinary........
