Pre-emptive measures needed to achieve price stability

Concerns about inflation are gaining traction as the consumer price index continues to exceed the central bank's 2 percent inflation target. According to Statistics Korea, Tuesday, consumer prices rose 2.6 percent last month year-on-year, the fourth consecutive month the index grew more than 2 percent, prompting fears that people's livelihoods will be undermined further amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Most worrisome is that the prices of agriculture, livestock and fisheries products surged 9.6 percent........
