Jenrick defection shows British politics is now a competition in sewer-swimming

One of the books in my haul over Christmas was written by the former leader of the Lib Dems, Vince Cable.

Cable was always a voice of common sense in Westminster. His book is called How to be a Politician – 2000 Years of Good (and bad) Advice.

It is essentially a series of quotes strung together with Cable’s own witty observations.

He comments: “Most politicians, as I have described, find their way into politics as a result of conviction or because of their background circumstances. But some are sufficiently cold-blooded to do a calculation as to which party will be the best vehicle for a political career.”
