Belfast’s Big Fish needs repaired, not a vegan message from PETA

Reports regarding the damage to Belfast’s ‘Big Fish’ have been hard to miss this week.

When I was at university I used to grab a coffee and sit by the Lagan opposite the sculpture. I liked looking at it. I didn’t think much more deeply about it than that, but it is a spot I am still very fond of.

Belfast Magistrates’ Court heard that tiles around the fish’s left eye had been smashed with a sledgehammer, causing damage estimated at more than £10,000.

A man has been charged and remanded in custody. The court was told he accepted the offences but has given no explanation for why it happened.
