THE more things change, the more they stay the same.
Well, that is only partly true when it comes to setting a year for holding a border poll.
If you grew up in a nationalist background, you will almost certainly have had a close relative who told you that a border poll was on the horizon.
Either at the turn of the century, or by the centenary of the Easter Rising or the partition of the island, we would have held a referendum on the constitutional future of the north.

Enter in there the various calls to hold a border poll following the EU referendum, and you get the picture.
Dates have come and gone like the seasons. Numerous leaders on the nationalist side have proposed the ideal time to hold a referendum.
Last week was no different, as the 2030 argument was raised again.
No plan has been put forward for how we will achieve it, but it was mentioned anyway.
