Moore: Taylor Herd won’t allow anything to keep her down

The Lansdale Catholic grad from Quakertown is starting at Division I Quinnipiac despite missing her final two years of high school ball due to tearing the same ACL twice

Taylor Herd was determined not to let a pair of torn ACLs that sidelined her for her junior and senior years of high school prevent her from playing Division I women’s basketball.

Despite missing her final two seasons at Lansdale Catholic due to right knee injuries suffered playing AAU ball for the Lady Runnin’ Rebels from King of Prussia, Herd chose Quinnipiac because they continued to believe in her when other schools dropped out of the picture — just as she believed in herself.

Bobcats coach Tricia Fabbri’s faith in Herd was rewarded when, after playing sparingly during her first year, Herd cracked the rotation as a sophomore. By her junior season, the Quakertown resident had been voted the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Sixth Player of the Year for averaging 7.8 points and hitting a team-high 56 3-pointers as Quinnipiac repeated as conference champions and won 20 games for the eighth straight time.

Herd said it took until her junior year to “feel more like myself” in terms of having full confidence and strength in the knee.
