Moore: Sidney Jones makes most of his moment

The third-year cornerback’s crucial play late in the Eagles’ win over the Giants came on his only defensive snap.

PHILADELPHIA — Sidney Jones figured he’d be making plenty of plays in his third year with the Eagles.

A second-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Washington, Jones would’ve gone in the first round if not for a ruptured Achilles that sidelined him for most of his rookie year. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman and others believed Jones would be an impact player at cornerback.

While it hasn’t worked out the way, Jones indeed made a play in Monday night’s 23-17 victory over the Giants — and a big one at that — on his only defensive snap.

On third-and-3 at the New York 32-yard line, Giants quarterback Eli Manning tried to hit receiver Darius Slayton on a slant route but Jones closed quickly and knocked the ball away, forcing a punt. The game was tied 17-17 with 1 minute, 35 seconds remaining in regulation. A completion would’ve resulted in a first down.
