Moore: Earl brothers and Matt Langel are three of a kind

The longtime friends have each other as valuable resources while coaching at the Division I level

Matt Langel and the Earl brothers, Dan and Brian, thoroughly enjoyed playing basketball, but they wouldn’t have predicted all three would become Division I men’s coaches.

Langel starred at Moorestown High School, while Dan and Brian grew up in Medford Lakes and flourished at Shawnee. All three excelled in college — Langel was first team All-Ivy as a senior at Penn (1999-2000), Dan Earl was a two-time All-Big Ten selection at Penn State and Brian was Ivy League Player of the Year during his senior season at Princeton (1998-99).

After playing professional ball, they ended up as assistant coaches — Matt with Fran Dunphy at Penn and then Temple, Dan at Penn State and Navy, and Brian at his alma mater, Princeton — before securing head coaching jobs at Colgate (in 2011), Virginia Military Institute (2015) and Cornell (2016), respectively.

The three 40-somethings who got to know each other while tagging along to watch their dads play basketball in Burlington County pickup leagues as kids, shooting around at........
