Middletown supervisor gets shout-out from Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson

When she was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer in July, Anna Payne, 34, was asked by family and friends, what does she need? She would tell them the same thing.

“I tell them I need a video of Dwayne Johnson telling me everything’s gonna be OK,” she said.

So it was a surprise when Johnson, a WWE wrestler-turned-actor also known as “The Rock,” sent her a video to say he’s rooting for her recovery.

“I have been a huge fan since I was a kid,” said Payne.

She said a friend wrote a letter to Johnson, explaining her health situation.

“He saw the letter and made the video,” she said.

So far, 3 million views on social media.

“It’s what I needed,” said Payne, who in 2019 was elected to the board of supervisors in Middletown Township.

In the 3-minute video, Johnson tells Payne he loves her, and gives her an upbeat talk about beating cancer.

"I know that through this letter (sent by her friend) that you are going through the fight of your life ... and I know you are fighting hard. Stay strong. Keep fighting. The fight never ends."

As we sat outside at a sunny Starbucks this week, she’s still dazzled by Johnson’s tender message.

“Dwayne Johnson said he loved me. Did I tell you that? I still can’t believe it,” she said, laughing.

A Levittown kid (Cobalt Ridge, Red Rose Gate) and a Neshaminy grad, Payne became a fan of The Rock as a child. She was 10, and her younger cousin was a big WWE fan.
