DOJ seeking death penalty for suspect in fatal shootings of 2 Israeli Embassy staffers
Prosecutors will seek the death penalty against the man accused of shooting and killing two Israeli Embassy staffers outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, the Department of Justice informed a federal judge Friday.
Justice Department leaders had long signaled they were considering it. The new filing marks the formal notification from U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Pirro’s office.
The decision requires the personal approval of the attorney general.
Elias Rodriguez stands accused of gunning down a young couple who worked for the Israeli Embassy — Yaron Lischinsky, 30, and Sarah Lynn Milgrim, 26 — outside the Capital Jewish Museum in D.C. nearly one year ago.
He then allegedly returned to the museum to identify himself as the shooter and was apprehended, saying, “I did it for Palestine. I did it for Gaza.”
