Tillis sets Jan. 6 red line on attorney general nominee

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) said Thursday he will not support any nominee for attorney general if the candidate makes excuses for the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

President Trump dismissed Pam Bondi from the attorney general post before Tillis’s comments, which is expected to set up a confirmation battle on her successor later this year.

“For me, the threshold for somebody following Pam Bondi ends the moment I hear they said one thing that excused the events of January the 6th. I’ve been very clear on that,” Tillis said on CNN’s The Source with Kaitlan Collins. “So I hope whoever they have in mind to follow General Bondi is very clear-eyed on my position on Jan. 6.”

Tillis made a similar argument regarding Ed Martin, Trump’s choice to serve as U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia. Tillis........
