Watch live: House Democrats give remarks in wake of Swalwell resignation
House Democratic leaders will speak with reporters Wednesday morning in the wake of controversy surrounding former Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), who resigned Tuesday amid mounting sexual misconduct allegations.
Many Democrats have sought to distance themselves from Swalwell over the claims and pressed him to step aside and drop his gubernatorial bid to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom (D). He has since withdrawn from the race, where he was a frontrunner.
The House on Wednesday afternoon is also slated to vote on the GOP’s push to reauthorize Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which allows the government to spy on foreigners located abroad.
The press conference is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. EDT.
