Andy Kim: Trump ‘should be removed from office’
Sen. Andy Kim (D-N.J.) said Wednesday that President Trump “should be removed from office” amid the president’s threats toward Iran.
“I think he is unfit to be commander in chief. I think he should be removed from office,” Kim told CNN’s John King on “The Source.”
Kim is not the first Democrat in recent days to push for Trump’s removal.
On Tuesday, a swath of Democrats called on the president to be removed from office over his dire threats against Iran ahead of an 8 p.m. EDT deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Trump extended the timeline for two more weeks, instituting a shaky ceasefire, shortly before the self-imposed deadline.
“Donald Trump is openly threatening war crimes against the entirety of Iranian civilization. 25th Amendment proceedings must begin immediately, but if the Cabinet is too cowardly, the House should begin the impeachment process now,” Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.) posted on social platform X, referring to a Truth Social post from Trump in which he said that “a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.”
Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.). meanwhile, pushed for the House to begin impeachment proceedings over the post, referring to it as “completely unstable and perilous.” Democratic Rep. John Larson (Conn.) filed articles of impeachment in the House on Tuesday.
“I mean, he is someone that is dangerous to the American people right now, doing actions that are completely against what the American people want and want to focus on,” Kim said of Trump earlier in the Wednesday interview.
“And if he is not removed by this Cabinet, and we certainly don’t see the prospects of Speaker [Mike] Johnson [(R-La.)] growing a spine anytime soon,” the New Jersey Democrat added. “You know, certainly, the voters will have to hold him and the Republican leadership accountable in November.”
The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment.
