Bessent: ‘President Trump should be on’ $250 bill
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Friday endorsed a $250 bill to commemorate the U.S. semiquincentennial featuring President Trump.
Larry Kudlow, a conservative contributor for Fox Business, asked the Trump administration official about his opinion of the proposed currency during a sit-down interview at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California.
“We are going to have the image of President Trump on a coin,” Bessent said.
The secretary cited a half dollar coin distributed during America’s 150th anniversary celebration, which depicted the likenesses of then-President Calvin Coolidge and George Washington.
Bessent noted during the interview that he is “only mandated to do two things” as Treasury secretary when it comes to currency designs.
“At present, it has to be someone who is not living and it must say, ‘In God We Trust.’ I can do whatever else I want,” he said. “And I think that if you are the president, just like Calvin Coolidge was........
