Trump’s approval on economy hits new low; 7 in 10 expect recession next year: Poll

A large majority of U.S. voters disapprove of President Trump’s handle on the economy, with many saying they expect a recession next year, according to a new poll.

The CNN survey, released this week, shows that 30 percent of respondents approve of Trump’s handle on the economy, with 70 percent who say they disapprove.

During his first term, the president’s disapproval rating did not go above 50 percent. In the outlet’s average of polls in his second term, his disapproval ranking began at 56 percent and has risen from there, the results show.

The latest poll was conducted ahead of the April jobs report, when the Labor Department revealed that the U.S. added 115,000 new jobs last month, with the jobless rate holding firm at 4.3 percent. On Tuesday, the department released data showing that inflation leapt 3.8 percent as the war in Iran shot food and energy prices up.
