Pirro creates tip line for information about Swalwell

U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro on Wednesday created a tipline for information related to sexual misconduct allegations against Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), who resigned from Congress after several women came forward over the past week.

“If you hear about someone who was allegedly drugging, choking, raping victims, who has lived in this district for a significant period of time, I would expect there would be victims who might have information,” Pirro said in a video posted to social platform X.

She added that anyone with information or a complaint “as it relates to the kinds of complaints we’re hearing about with Eric Swalwell,” can submit a tip and the sender will be kept confidential.

“We have all kinds of resources,” she continued. “We partnered with other agencies. So I want potential victims and witnesses and anyone who has any information to come to my office or call a hotline, which is 202-252-0809.”

Swalwell has denied all allegations of wrongdoing. Five women, including a former staffer, have come forward alleging he sexually assaulted them. The former staffer recounted two incidents to the San Francisco Chronicle of waking up after a night of drinking with Swalwell and accused him of sexually assaulting her in a hotel room.

The California Democrat also dropped out of the Golden State’s crowded gubernatorial race, where he was the frontrunner, on Sunday. He announced on Monday that he is resigning from Congress after bipartisan calls for his expulsion.

“This man lived a double life,” Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), a close friend and Swalwell’s campaign chair for his failed 2020 presidential bid, told reporters Tuesday. “He lied to us. He lied to his family. He lied to his constituents. I was manipulated, I was lied to, and everyone else was, too.”

The Manhattan and Los Angeles district attorney offices announced investigations into the allegations against Swalwell. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg encouraged anyone with information about the allegations to contact his office’s Special Victims Division. Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman similarly told The Hill that his office’s Sex Crimes Division is working closely with law enforcement partners “as this investigation unfolds.”

Swalwell’s attorney Sara Azari called the timing that the allegations came to light a “political hit-job” in an interview with Chris Cuomo on NewsNation, The Hill’s partner broadcaster.

“If it’s conspicuous, the timing of this, it’s because it’s just no coincidence that this is now being done as a political hit job on the eve of, you know, a governor run in California where he was leading the race,” Azari said on “CUOMO.”
