Thomas Massie smeared by GOP establishment; MAGA is with him!
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) is fighting for his political life.
On Tuesday, voters in his district will decide whether to retain the long-serving libertarian Republican, or whether to fall in line with the Republican establishment and with President Trump, who is furious with Massie for opposing the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the Trump tariffs, and the administration’s increasingly neoconservative foreign policy agenda. Trump has endorsed Massie’s opponent, Ed Gallrein.
Massie votes with Trump on the vast majority of issues. But he takes his promises to voters seriously, and so he refuses to raise the deficit, raise your taxes, or send more money overseas. He has also led the charge on releasing the Epstein files. I disagree with him on aspects of that, but otherwise I stand with Massie, and I’m glad there’s at least one Republican who votes the way he promised.
Unfortunately, Trump is lashing out, and now this is becoming the most expensive congressional primary race in history, with almost $35 million spent.
Trump is also attacking anyone who dares to defend Massie. When Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) went to campaign for Massie, it prompted Trump to write on Truth Social that he would now back a primary against Boebert.
In response, Boebert wrote on X: “Yes, I saw the President’s post. No, I’m not mad or offended. I knew the risks when I agreed to stand by my friend Thomas Massie. I was, and will be, America First, America Always, and MAGA. Onward.”
But it’s not just straightforward threats and political attacks on Massie’s allies. In their quest to unseat Massie, the congressman’s enemies have surfaced a desperate, unfair and vague accusation of personal wrongdoing. Cynthia West, a former girlfriend of Massie, has alleged that he paid her $5,000 in “hush money.” That term now appears in countless headlines alongside Massie’s name.
Some headlines note that Massie denies the charge. But we know how this game is played: The mere hint of impropriety may very well taint him in the eyes of the voters.
