Which cities are the most obese? New report has the answer

(NEXSTAR) – America has an unfortunate weight problem. Not just stereotypically, but statistically, 42% of adults in the United States are technically considered obese.

And while diet fads and weight loss supplements are becoming more and more prevalent, many U.S. residents continue to struggle with their weight.

If you look across the nation however, you may notice that some areas of the country are struggling with obesity more than others.

A new study done by WalletHub looked at the 100 largest cities in the U.S. and used several different variables to create a score to determine which cities had the worst obesity problem.

To find this, the study looked into the number of overweight and obese people living in a city, various health conditions such as the number of adults with high cholesterol or high blood pressure, and the amount of healthy food or activity that residents in the cities engage in.

Using this data, the city that ranked as the most obese city in the country was Little Rock, Arkansas, which finished with a score of 83.96 out of 100.

Arkansas’ capital city lands at the top of the list due to its high number of residents who are considered obese, particularly the obesity rate among children who live in the area, where 23% residents aged 10 to 17 are obese, the second highest rate in the country.

Not far behind is McAllen, Texas, with a score of 83.22. McAllen has the largest percentage of adults who are considered obese in the country, at a staggering 45% of adult residents. Additionally, 31% of adults in the McAllen area are considered overweight but not obese.

Below is the full list of the 25 most obese cities in the United States.
