What’s in the US’s 1-page proposal for Iran peace deal?

The U.S. and Iran are reportedly trying to hammer out the details of one-page memorandum to end hostilities, the latest back-and-forth amid the stalemate over the months-long conflict.

The U.S.-proposed memo would establish a framework for future talks on Tehran’s nuclear program, a source familiar with the talks told NewsNation’s Kellie Meyer on Wednesday.

Earlier Wednesday, Axios reported that the deal would involve the Islamic Republic committing to a moratorium on nuclear enrichment, the Trump administration lifting sanctions and releasing billions in frozen Iranian funds, and both sides lifting restrictions on transit in the Strait of Hormuz.

That third tenet, if implemented, would be crucial for the global economy. In response to the initial U.S. and Israeli strikes, the Iranian military began threatening commercial vessels from nonallied countries against transiting the waterway — through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil typically travels.

The Iranian navy has also laid mines in the strait, including on April 23, more than two weeks into the ceasefire with the U.S., according to a chart shared by Gen. Dan Caine, the chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, during a Tuesday press briefing.

The restrictions have resulted in the price of oil increasing........
