Nearly half of Americans not interested in World Cup: Poll

More than 4 in 10 respondents to a new Emerson College poll are not interested in the FIFA World Cup, which starts on Thursday.

Of the 1,200 respondents to the survey, conducted on June 7 and 8, 45 percent said they were not at all interested in the men’s soccer tournament. A third of respondents said they were somewhat interested, while 22 percent said they were very interested.

The 23rd edition of the event starts in less than 24 hours, as co-host Mexico will face off against South Africa in Mexico City. Mexico is co-hosting the World Cup alongside the U.S. and Canada. 

The Americans, meanwhile, will begin play against Paraguay at 9 p.m. EDT in Inglewood, Calif. The U.S. is in Group D with Paraguay, Turkey and Australia. 

The Americans will face Turkey and Australia on June 19 in Seattle and June 25 back in Inglewood, respectively. If the U.S. advances out........
