Ken Paxton walks out of press conference, avoids tough questions 

If you’re running for the U.S. Senate, answering tough questions isn’t optional. It’s part of the job. 

Texas Attorney General and Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton learned that the hard way this week when a press conference meant to highlight law enforcement quickly became all about the questions he didn’t want to answer.  

Paxton was joined by more than 20 Texas sheriffs to tout his support for law enforcement. But reporters weren’t just there to talk law enforcement policy. They also wanted answers about recent reporting surrounding Paxton’s personal finances and voting history. All extremely relevant for someone pushing to become senator. 

“I wanted to give you a chance to respond” to reports, Paxton was asked, “one in The New York Times, about you acquiring properties worth nine million.” 

“We’re here with the sheriffs,” Paxton replied. “I’d like to keep it to law enforcement.”  

The questions weren’t out of left field. Recent reporting has raised questions about whether Paxton may have violated Texas election law by voting using an address where he allegedly no longer lived. Separate reporting also found that he or........
