ABC pushing back against FCC crackdown on ‘The View’ 

ABC is pushing back against the Trump administration trying to police broadcast television content, arguing in a new filing that the Federal Communications Commission is crossing a constitutional line and violating the First Amendment.  

This all comes after the agency questioned whether “The View” should still qualify as a legitimate news program under federal equal-time rules.  

Now, let’s be clear. People can love “The View,” hate-watch “The View,” or avoid it altogether. That’s not really the point here. The bigger issue is whether the government gets to decide which political viewpoints deserve protection and which ones deserve scrutiny.  

ABC says the FCC’s actions “threaten to upend decades of settled law and practice and chill critical protected speech.” The network also warned about “viewpoint discrimination and retaliatory targeting,” especially because the scrutiny appears focused on programs openly critical of Donald Trump.
