Trump administration launches two more Harvard probes
The Trump administration announced on Monday two new civil rights investigations into Harvard, ramping up its latest attacks against the country’s oldest and richest university.
The Education Department said it is investigating Title VI violations, alleging Harvard has used affirmative action in admissions despite a ban on the practice by the Supreme Court in 2023.
The federal agency also issued a Letter of Impending Enforcement Action due to Harvard’s refusal to provide admissions data to the Trump administration. The school has 20 days to comply before th administration is threatening further action.
“Harvard University should know better. Its name will always be tied to the landmark Supreme Court case that found sweeping racial discrimination in admissions and the campus has been in the spotlight for tolerating egregious antisemitic harassment for years now. OCR will investigate these complaints thoroughly,” Education Secretary Linda McMahon said.
“No one — not even Harvard — is above the law,” she continued. “If Harvard continues to stonewall as we try to verify its basic compliance with antidiscrimination statutes, we will vigorously hold them to account to ensure students’ rights are protected.”
The Hill has reached out to Harvard for comment.
The investigations come days after the Trump administration sued Harvard for allegedly failing to protect Jewish students, looking to cut funding from the school and have the university pay back federal funding it has received since the alleged violations began.
