‘Summer House’ alum Luke Gulbranson launches House bid in Minnesota
Former “Summer House” star Luke Gulbranson says he’s leaving behind the antics of reality TV and aiming to go where the “real drama” is in Washington.
“Yeah, I’ve been on reality TV,” the 42-year-old model and actor said in an ad released Wednesday announcing the launch of his campaign for Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District. The seat is currently held by Rep. Pete Stauber (R).
“That’s drama for show,” Gulbranson said. “What’s happening in D.C. is real drama with real consequences. And the stakes couldn’t be higher.”
“I wake up every morning and there’s this dangerous rhetoric and this madness coming out of D.C. And I can’t stand it,” said Gulbranson, who appeared as a cast member on the Bravo reality series from 2020 to 2022.
Gulbranson, whose candidacy wasn’t officially listed on the Federal Election Commission’s website as of Wednesday morning, is running as a Democrat, according to The Minnesota Star Tribune.
In his ad, Gulbranson called out Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents who he described as “wreaking havoc to our communities,” and knocked Congress for “voting to take away people’s health care.”
“Spending $200 billion on a war when we need to be spending that money at home, taking care of our own people,” Gulbranson said in the ad, vowing to “protect our lands, to protect good paying union jobs and to help families who live on fixed incomes.”
“I’m not here to play politics,” Gulbranson said, “I’m running to get Congress working for the people again.”
Gulbranson isn’t the first reality TV alum to enter the political world.
Sean Duffy was a former cast member on MTV’s “The Real World” before he became a congressman in Wisconsin and then Transportation secretary. Heavenly Kimes, from Bravo’s “Married to Medicine,” announced last year a run in a crowded Democratic primary to unseat Rep. David Scott (D-Ga.).
Spencer Pratt, a former longtime star on MTV’s “The Hills,” is running to become the mayor of Los Angeles.
