Viagra drug found in ‘wellness’ supplement prompts nationwide recall

(NEXSTAR) – A New Mexico-based company is recalling one of its supplements after a lab found it to contain the erectile dysfunction drug sildenafil, according to a Wednesday news release from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Sildenafil is the active ingredient in Viagra, which is FDA approved and used by millions of patients – but was not listed on the label of Primal Supplements Group LLC’s product “Volume,” the FDA says.

“This undeclared ingredient may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs, such as nitroglycerin, and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels,” the FDA warns. “People with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart disease often take nitrates.”

On the Primal Supplements website, Volume is advertised as an herbal supplement that “helps enhance arousal and overall wellness,” along with increased circulation, reproductive health and other aspects of men’s health.

“Enjoy daily support for lasting wellness with just one scoop,” the site says.

The FDA is advising customers who bought the 8.5-ounce package between July 2, 2025 and Sept. 19, 2025 to stop using it immediately.

Primal herbs asks customers to email hello@primalherbs.com with their order number to receive their choice of “a complimentary replacement shipment or full store credit, along with simple return instructions.

The recall isn’t the first in 2026 to be prompted by an undeclared erectile dysfunction drug.

In early February, the FDA announced that a honey product sold as “energy support” was found to contain taladafil, a primary ingredient in Cialis.
