Speaker Johnson’s longtime top aide departing office 

Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-La.) chief of staff, Hayden Haynes — one of his longest-serving aides — will depart the office in early June. 

Haynes started as campaign manager for Johnson when he first ran for Congress in 2016, becoming his chief of staff once Johnson took office. He stayed in the role as Johnson’s top aide through his stunning and unlikely rise to the Speakership after former Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was ousted from the role in 2023.

Punchbowl News first reported Haynes’s coming departure. Johnson’s office did not say what Haynes is doing next.
