Bianco emerges as GOP contender ahead of California governor debate
ATLANTA – The race to become California’s next governor has narrowed from eight candidates to six in the past two weeks, and the remaining contenders will face off in a televised debate on Wednesday night.
Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, one of the Republican contenders, sat down with “Raising America” in a rare interview ahead of the debate.
The opportunity to stand out in a competitive primary with no clear front-runner comes on the heels of two big exits: Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell and former California State Controller Betty Yee (D).
Democratic candidates who are still in the race have largely focused their campaigns on protecting existing policies. Several have also highlighted climate change, economic investments and additional housing for the homeless. While public safety is also part of their closing arguments to voters ahead of the primary, more issues are in sharp contrast with those of Republican challengers.
The primary election is set for June 2, with mail-in ballots scheduled to be sent out as early as May, giving campaigns limited time to make their case to voters.
Bianco said he is seeing a shift in voter preference.
