8 of the 10 most common jobs pay below average, federal data shows

(NewsNation) — Many of America’s most common jobs pay well below the U.S. average, new federal data shows.

Eight of the nation’s 10 largest occupations by employment have below-average wages, ranging from $32,150 for fast food workers to $46,590 for customer service representatives, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) estimates for more than 800 jobs.

Those figures are significantly lower than the $69,770 annual average across all occupations.

Several of the nation’s largest occupations are concentrated in customer service and caregiving roles that typically pay less than specialized professions requiring advanced degrees.

Home health and personal care aides, the nation’s largest occupation with more than 4.3 million workers, have an average annual wage of $36,120 — roughly half the U.S. average. Cashiers aren’t far........
